    RailPro railing systems are engineered and manufactured to meet or exceed the applicable requirements of the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC) and the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) for guardrails, handrails, balconies, decks, stairs, and elevated walking surfaces.

    Please note that every state must meet these codes as a minimum requirement. However, local jurisdictions may adopt additional requirements or create codes that are more restrictive than the IRC or IBC.

    Our residential, multifamily, and commercial railing systems are designed with safety, durability, structural performance, and long-term code compliance in mind. Because building codes are updated on a regular basis, RailPro continuously monitors current code requirements and industry standards to ensure our products remain compliant with modern construction practices.

    Residential Code Compliance (IRC 2024)

    For one- and two-family dwellings and townhomes, RailPro systems are designed to comply with the applicable provisions of the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC).

    Typical Commercial Design Criteria

    • 42 in. minimum guard height
    • 4 in. maximum opening limitation
    • 200 lb concentrated load applied in any direction at the top of the guard
    • 50 lb/ft uniform load along the top rail
    • Applicable glazing and safety requirements for glass railing systems

    Additional Code Requirements

    Building codes establish minimum safety standards. Many states, cities, counties, and local jurisdictions adopt amendments that may be more restrictive than the IRC or IBC.

    Final approval is subject to review by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), project engineer, architect, or building official. RailPro recommends verification of all project-specific requirements, including local amendments, wind loads, seismic conditions, and engineering criteria where applicable.

    It is the responsibility of the project owner, contractor, or design professional to verify compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
